Math for
Game Designers
On January 9, 2026, Maria Chiara took part in IdeaG in Parma, one of the main Italian events dedicated to board game design, where designers gather to prototype, playtest, and exchange ideas. During the talk, she explored how mathematics can support game development, not only as a tool for balancing, but also as a way to model player experience and spark creative insights. Through the analysis of two board games, Fruit Cup, used to show how recipe cards can be represented through systems of equations, and Wavelength, as an example of how mathematical reasoning can inspire new creative direction, the talk highlighted how math can become an active and flexible resource throughout the design process.
