Math for
Game Designers
What If Games (https://www.whatifgames.co.uk/) is a blog dedicated to independent board game design, built around curiosity, creativity, and the desire to inspire new ideas. Through articles and interviews, the platform explores the world of board game design from multiple perspectives, touching on themes such as mechanics, development choices, and the creative processes behind tabletop experiences. Within this context, we were invited to take part in the Conversations interview series, which brings together voices from different backgrounds to explore the many facets of game design. The interview, available here https://www.whatifgames.co.uk/maths-for-games-designers-a-chat-with-math-for-games-designers/
, focuses on how mathematical thinking can be applied to game design in general, showing how models, probabilities, and analytical tools can help designers make more informed decisions and create balanced, engaging games. We are very grateful to Joe for the opportunity to share our perspective and to contribute to a space that supports reflection and dialogue within the board game design community, especially the @BoardGameProtoHype community.
